The size of the football field has changed many times but is currently:
The official size of an NFL football field is 360 feet or 120 yards in length end zone to end zone and 160 feet or 53 1/3 yards in width. The playing field is 100 yards in length.
Why is the width 53 1/3 yards you ask? Strange isn’t it. Well, according to The Illustrated NFL Playbook, in order to reduce the number of injuries, a gentleman known as the Father of American, Football, Walter Camp of Yale, settled with this size because this was the largest size of field that would fit into Harvard’s new stadium.
